Remote Controller
(especially great for blind/low vision)

For many years I've wanted to find a very simple, and affordable standalone ECU (Environmental Control Unit, now called an EADL, Electronic Aid for Daily Living) package.  I wanted an all-in-one product would allow control of all IR devices (TV, stereo, cable/satellite, DVD, CD) and X-10 adapted appliances (read on).

Enter the iPhone and iPad (and iPod Touch)!  They are the all-in-one 'computers' that I had been waiting for!  And now there are Android devices, also 'all-in-one' computers.  Combine one of these with the Beacon IR blaster, and you get my Remote Controller.
(yes, laptops, tablet PC's have come and gone but there are bigger and more expensive)

And the Beacon is portable, operating from your mobile device via Bluetooth, by battery power (batteries last about a month); nothing to plug in!  So you can bring it from room to room with you!

Note: You can not control the Beacon with your computer!  For that, click here for my EADL Package.

You download (free) the app (it's called "Dijit") to control, via Bluetooth, the Beacon to send the IR to your devices.  Using a vast library of 'codes' from Dijit's library, you can usually find your specific device.  Click here for the manufacturer's page, which gives more detail than I do here.  I sell it for the same price, BUT you cannot get tech support *specific* to special needs from Griffin, which is a 'mainstream' company.

One example of this extra support is for a blind (or person with low vision) that cannot see their guide for their cable or satellite TV.  Using Apple's free & included talking technology, VoiceOver, a blind/low vision person can hear everything that is on their i-device by simply move their finger around on the touchscreen.  It's quite impressive!  Well, VoiceOver works with Digit's guide almost perfectly.  And VoiceOver works with Beacon's on-screen device controller's buttons.

I also wanted users to be able to control actual appliances, such as lights, fans, etc. I needed X10 control.  X10 is a tried-and-tested adapter system for almost everything electrically operated in the home, even some things that you would never think could be operated electrically (check out SmartHome; "Insteon" is the 'new' X10, being more reliable and backward-compatible to X-10). With the addition of my IR-to-X10 Adapter, the Beacon sends IR signals, TO the IR-to-X10 Adapter.  The IR-to-X10 Adapter which plugs into your wall socket, receives the IR, then sends digital signals through your house AC wiring, to X10 (or its updated 'cousin', Insteon) modules that have your desired appliance/light/etc. plugged into them.  There are even in-wall X-10 light switches/dimmers.  The system is seamless and works beautifully, for very little money!  I've seen a similar system for $6000!
